The Yamuna Expressway, which was till now acclaimed for shortening the distance between Greater Noida and Agra, is all set to make its mark with the upcoming high-speed metro according to an announcement by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and the Noida and Greater Noida authorities. The first of its kind rapid metro train, the proposed link will run parallel to the Yamuna Expressway service road, commencing from Knowledge Park II in Greater Noida and covering a 38 kilometre stretch in the Jewar region. The line will be connected to all the residential and industrial zones along the stretch.
While Delhi NCR enjoys rapid metro connectivity in most of its major areas, till now, the metro trains in the various metropolitans have been plying at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour and the fastest is the Airport Metro, with a speed of 90 kilometres per hour. The new proposed metro, however, will have a speed of 120 kilometres per hour, making it the fastest metro in the country.
“As the area is growing by leaps and bounds, the need of hour is to provide Metro connectivity. With the announcement of a new airport in Jewar by the Centre, it was necessary to provide Metro connectivity not only to the area but also to the airport located in the Capital,” a senior executive asserted in a statement.
The concerned authorities responsible for the infrastructural growth in the region have declared to soon begin work on the 38 km high-speed stretch after it signed an MoU with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) last week regarding a technical utility evaluation and a comprehensive project report which is hoped to be complete in five months’ time.
After upholding a joint meeting to discuss the upcoming metro, the officials of YEIDA and Noida and Greater Noida authorities have given an estimate of Rs. 2,500 crores for laying the metro track. Moreover, the construction will follow eco-friendly guidelines including the use of solar panels to meet the electricity requirement. The line will also be fully secured.
The construction of the proposed high-speed metro line, while expected to be authorised by 2019, is presumed to start before the year comes to an end. A YEIDA official commented that after the Greater Noida-Jewar metro line is warranted, it will offer a smooth commute between both the airports, giving the passengers a huge relief.
